bnx2x: Fix firmware version string character counts
[ Upstream commit 5642c82b9463c3263c086efb002516244bd4c668 ]
A potential string truncation was reported in bnx2x_fill_fw_str(), when a long bp->fw_ver and a long phy_fw_ver might coexist, but seems unlikely with real-world hardware.
Use scnprintf() to indicate the intent that truncations are tolerated.
While reading this code, I found a collection of various buffer size counting issues. None looked like they might lead to a buffer overflow with current code (the small buffers are 20 bytes and might only ever consume 10 bytes twice with a trailing %NUL). However, early truncation (due to a %NUL in the middle of the string) might be happening under likely rare conditions. Regardless fix the formatters and related functions:
- Switch from a separate strscpy() to just adding an additional "%s" to the format string that immediately follows it in bnx2x_fill_fw_str(). - Use sizeof() universally instead of using unbound defines. - Fix bnx2x_7101_format_ver() and bnx2x_null_format_ver() to report the number of characters written, not including the trailing %NUL (as already done with the other firmware formatting functions). - Require space for at least 1 byte in bnx2x_get_ext_phy_fw_version() for the trailing %NUL. - Correct the needed buffer size in bnx2x_3_seq_format_ver().

drivers/net/ethernet: clean up mis-targeted comments
As part of the W=1 cleanups for ethernet, a million [*] driver comments had to be cleaned up to get the W=1 compilation to succeed. This change finally makes the drivers/net/ethernet tree compile with W=1 set on the command line. NOTE: The kernel uses kdoc style (see Documentation/process/kernel-doc.rst) when documenting code, not doxygen or other styles.
After this patch the x86_64 build has no warnings from W=1, however scripts/kernel-doc says there are 1545 more warnings in source files, that I need to develop a script to fix in a followup patch.
The errors fixed here are all kdoc of a few classes, with a few outliers: In file included from drivers/net/ethernet/qlogic/netxen/netxen_nic_hw.c:10: drivers/net/ethernet/qlogic/netxen/netxen_nic.h:1193:18: warning: ‘FW_DUMP_LEVELS’ defined but not used [-Wunused-const-variable=] 1193 | static const u32 FW_DUMP_LEVELS[] = { 0x3, 0x7, 0xf, 0x1f, 0x3f, 0x7f, 0xff }; | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ... repeats 4 times... drivers/net/ethernet/sun/cassini.c:2084:24: warning: suggest braces around empty body in an ‘else’ statement [-Wempty-body] 2084 | RX_USED_ADD(page, i); drivers/net/ethernet/natsemi/ns83820.c: In function ‘phy_intr’: drivers/net/ethernet/natsemi/ns83820.c:603:6: warning: variable ‘tbisr’ set but not used [-Wunused-but-set-variable] 603 | u32 tbisr, tanar, tanlpar; | ^~~~~ drivers/net/ethernet/natsemi/ns83820.c: In function ‘ns83820_get_link_ksettings’: drivers/net/ethernet/natsemi/ns83820.c:1207:11: warning: variable ‘tanar’ set but not used [-Wunused-but-set-variable] 1207 | u32 cfg, tanar, tbicr; | ^~~~~ drivers/net/ethernet/packetengines/yellowfin.c:1063:18: warning: variable ‘yf_size’ set but not used [-Wunused-but-set-variable] 1063 | int data_size, yf_size; | ^~~~~~~

bnx2x: Prevent ptp_task to be rescheduled indefinitely
Currently bnx2x ptp worker tries to read a register with timestamp information in case of TX packet timestamping and in case it fails, the routine reschedules itself indefinitely. This was reported as a kworker always at 100% of CPU usage, which was narrowed down to be bnx2x ptp_task.
By following the ioctl handler, we could narrow down the problem to an NTP tool (chrony) requesting HW timestamping from bnx2x NIC with RX filter zeroed; this isn't reproducible for example with ptp4l (from linuxptp) since this tool requests a supported RX filter. It seems NIC FW timestamp mechanism cannot work well with RX_FILTER_NONE - driver's PTP filter init routine skips a register write to the adapter if there's not a supported filter request.
This patch addresses the problem of bnx2x ptp thread's everlasting reschedule by retrying the register read 10 times; between the read attempts the thread sleeps for an increasing amount of time starting in 1ms to give FW some time to perform the timestamping. If it still fails after all retries, we bail out in order to prevent an unbound resource consumption from bnx2x.
The patch also adds an ethtool statistic for accounting the skipped TX timestamp packets and it reduces the priority of timestamping error messages to prevent log flooding. The code was tested using both linuxptp and chrony.

bnx2x: Check if transceiver implements DDM before access
Some transceivers may comply with SFF-8472 even though they do not implement the Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) interface described in the spec. The existence of such area is specified by the 6th bit of byte 92, set to 1 if implemented.
Currently, without checking this bit, bnx2x fails trying to read sfp module's EEPROM with the follow message:
ethtool -m enP5p1s0f1 Cannot get Module EEPROM data: Input/output error
Because it fails to read the additional 256 bytes in which it is assumed to exist the DDM data.
This issue was noticed using a Mellanox Passive DAC PN 01FT738. The EEPROM data was confirmed by Mellanox as correct and similar to other Passive DACs from other manufacturers.

NOTE: mmiowb() has only ever guaranteed ordering in conjunction with spin_unlock(). However, pairing each mmiowb() removal in this patch with the corresponding call to spin_unlock() is not at all trivial, so there is a small chance that this change may regress any drivers incorrectly relying on mmiowb() to order MMIO writes between CPUs using lock-free synchronisation. If you've ended up bisecting to this commit, you can reintroduce the mmiowb() calls using wmb() instead, which should restore the old behaviour on all architectures other than some esoteric ia64 systems.

bnx2x: Fix invalid memory access in rss hash config path.
Rx hash/filter table configuration uses rss_conf_obj to configure filters in the hardware. This object is initialized only when the interface is brought up. This patch adds driver changes to configure rss params only when the device is in opened state. In port disabled case, the config will be cached in the driver structure which will be applied in the successive load path.
Please consider applying it to 'net' branch.

bnx2x: Eliminate duplicate barriers on weakly-ordered archs
Code includes wmb() followed by writel(). writel() already has a barrier on some architectures like arm64.
This ends up CPU observing two barriers back to back before executing the register write.
Since code already has an explicit barrier call, changing writel() to writel_relaxed().

There is a hard limit in place that makes the number at most two digits, so the code is fine. This changes it to use snprintf() to truncate instead of overflowing, which shuts up that warning.

bnx2x: Correct ringparam estimate when DOWN
Until interface is up [and assuming ringparams weren't explicitly configured] when queried for the size of its rings bnx2x would claim they're the maximal size by default. That is incorrect as by default the maximal number of buffers would be equally divided between the various rx rings.
This prevents the user from actually setting the number of elements on each rx ring to be of maximal size prior to transitioning the interface into up state.
To fix this, make a rough estimation about the number of buffers. It wouldn't always be accurate, but it would be much better than current estimation and would allow users to increase number of buffers during early initialization of the interface.

bnx2x: Warn about grc timeouts in register dump
There are several scenarios where taking a register dump from a device might log benign GRC timeout attentions to system logs. Most common of those is when taking the dump from a 2-port device.
Sadly, there's no easy way to mask the problematic attentions during the flow - Changing this behvaior would require a firmware update. For now, simply warn users to ignore the warnings.

bnx2x: simplify distinction between port and func stats
The 'flags' field in bnx2x_stats_arr[] serves only one purpose - to tell us if the statistic is a per-port stat and thus should not be shown for virtual functions. It's strange that the field can have three different values. A boolean will do just fine.
Also remove IS_FUNC_STAT(). It was used only once and it's in fact just a negation of IS_PORT_STAT().

bnx2x: Show port statistics in Multi-function
Today, port statistics are being presented when using `ethool -S' only for single-function devices, but there are some port statistics which are crucial for analyzing bottle-necks. E.g., HW Rx discards due to lack of buffer space [when device isn't handling ingress traffic fast enough].
Judging the pros and cons, it was decided that in-order to better support automatic dump-gathering tools, bnx2x should no longer hide those stats. This leaves only VFs lacking the port statistics.
