Merge remote-tracking branch 'remotes/philmd-gitlab/tags/python-next-20200714' into staging Python patches for 5.1 - Reduce race conditions on QEMUMachine::shutdown() 1. Remove the "bare except" pattern in the existing shutdown code, which can mask problems and make debugging difficult. 2. Ensure that post-shutdown cleanup is always performed, even when graceful termination fails. 3. Unify cleanup paths such that no matter how the VM is terminated, the same functions and steps are always taken to reset the object state. 4. Rewrite shutdown() such that any error encountered when attempting a graceful shutdown will be raised as an AbnormalShutdown exception. The pythonic idiom is to allow the caller to decide if this is a problem or not. - Modify part of the python/qemu library to comply with: . mypy --strict . pylint . flake8 - Script for the TCG Continuous Benchmarking project that uses callgrind to dissect QEMU execution into three main phases: . code generation . JIT execution . helpers execution CI jobs results: . https://cirrus-ci.com/build/5421349961203712 . https://gitlab.com/philmd/qemu/-/pipelines/166556001 . https://travis-ci.org/github/philmd/qemu/builds/708102347 # gpg: Signature made Tue 14 Jul 2020 21:40:05 BST # gpg: using RSA key FAABE75E12917221DCFD6BB2E3E32C2CDEADC0DE # gpg: Good signature from "Philippe Mathieu-Daudé (F4BUG) <f4bug@amsat.org>" [full] # Primary key fingerprint: FAAB E75E 1291 7221 DCFD 6BB2 E3E3 2C2C DEAD C0DE * remotes/philmd-gitlab/tags/python-next-20200714: python/qmp.py: add QMPProtocolError python/qmp.py: add casts to JSON deserialization python/qmp.py: Do not return None from cmd_obj python/qmp.py: re-absorb MonitorResponseError iotests.py: use qemu.qmp type aliases python/qmp.py: Define common types python/machine.py: change default wait timeout to 3 seconds python/machine.py: re-add sigkill warning suppression python/machine.py: split shutdown into hard and soft flavors tests/acceptance: Don't test reboot on cubieboard tests/acceptance: wait() instead of shutdown() where appropriate python/machine.py: Make wait() call shutdown() python/machine.py: Add a configurable timeout to shutdown() python/machine.py: Prohibit multiple shutdown() calls python/machine.py: Perform early cleanup for wait() calls, too python/machine.py: Add _early_cleanup hook python/machine.py: Close QMP socket in cleanup python/machine.py: consolidate _post_shutdown() scripts/performance: Add dissect.py script Signed-off-by: Peter Maydell <peter.maydell@linaro.org>

Merge remote-tracking branch 'remotes/philmd-gitlab/tags/sdcard-CVE-2020-13253-pull-request' into staging Fix CVE-2020-13253 By using invalidated address, guest can do out-of-bounds accesses. These patches fix the issue by only allowing SD card image sizes power of 2, and not switching to SEND_DATA state when the address is invalid (out of range). This issue was found using QEMU fuzzing mode (using --enable-fuzzing, see docs/devel/fuzzing.txt) and reported by Alexander Bulekov. iotests: Specify explicit backing format where sensible There are many existing qcow2 images that specify a backing file but no format. This has been the source of CVEs in the past, but has become more prominent of a problem now that libvirt has switched to -blockdev. With older -drive, at least the probing was always done by qemu (so the only risk of a changed format between successive boots of a guest was if qemu was upgraded and probed differently). But with newer -blockdev, libvirt must specify a format; if libvirt guesses raw where the image was formatted, this results in data corruption visible to the guest; conversely, if libvirt guesses qcow2 where qemu was using raw, this can result in potential security holes, so modern libvirt instead refuses to use images without explicit backing format. The change in libvirt to reject images without explicit backing format has pointed out that a number of tools have been far too reliant on probing in the past. It's time to set a better example in our own iotests of properly setting this parameter. iotest calls to create, rebase, and convert are all impacted to some degree. It's a bit annoying that we are inconsistent on command line - while all of those accept -o backing_file=...,backing_fmt=..., the shortcuts are different: create and rebase have -b and -F, while convert has -B but no -F. (amend has no shortcuts, but the previous patch just deprecated the use of amend to change backing chains). Merge remote-tracking branch 'mst/tags/for_upstream' into staging pci, virtio, vhost: fixes A bunch of fixes that missed the release. Most notably we are reverting shpc back to enabled by default state as guests uses that as an indicator that hotplug is supported (even though it's unused). Merge remote-tracking branch 'dgibson/tags/ppc-for-2.10-20170511' into staging ppc patch queue for 2017-05-11 This pull request supersedes the one from yesterday (20170510), fixing an important style bug in one patch, and adding an extra couple of simple patches. Highlights of this set: * Some fixes for POWER9 * TCG support for POWER9 radix MMU * VGA rom for Mac machine types * Fixes for the XICS interrupt controller * MTTCG support for ppc targets As suggested by Paolo, I've tried to add the Docker tests to my standard pre-pull-request tests. I haven't wholly suceeded; this has been tested with some of the Docker images, but others I haven't managed due to problems that as best I can tell are not due to problems in this patch series. I'll continue working on this for future pull requests. Specifically, 'travis', 'fedora', and 'centos6' seem to work. 'min-glib' jammed while gtesting moxie, which seems very unlikely to be caused by this series. 'ubuntu', 'debian' and 'debian-bootstrap' hit build errors almost immediately that look like problems with the container configuration, and 'debian-*-cross' hit build errors later on which also look like missing dependencies from the container. # gpg: Signature made Thu 11 May 2017 05:13:46 AM BST # gpg: using RSA key 0x6C38CACA20D9B392 # gpg: Good signature from "David Gibson <david@gibson.dropbear.id.au>" # gpg: aka "David Gibson (kernel.org) <dwg@kernel.org>" # gpg: aka "David Gibson (Red Hat) <dgibson@redhat.com>" # gpg: aka "David Gibson (ozlabs.org) <dgibson@ozlabs.org>" # Primary key fingerprint: 75F4 6586 AE61 A66C C44E 87DC 6C38 CACA 20D9 B392 * dgibson/tags/ppc-for-2.10-20170511: (23 commits) target/ppc: Avoid printing wrong aliases in CPU help text pnv: Fix build failures on some host platforms target/ppc: Allow workarounds for POWER9 DD1 spapr: Don't accidentally advertise HTM support on POWER9 ppc: xics: fix compilation with CentOS 6 target/ppc: Enable RADIX mmu mode for pseries TCG guest target/ppc: Implement ISA V3.00 radix page fault handler target/ppc: Change tlbie invalid fields for POWER9 support target/ppc: Update tlbie to check privilege level based on GTSE target/ppc: Set UPRT and GTSE on all cpus in H_REGISTER_PROCESS_TABLE ppc: add qemu_vga.ndrv ROM to fw_cfg interface for NewWorld Macs ppc: add qemu_vga.ndrv ROM to fw_cfg interface for OldWorld Macs Add QemuMacDrivers qemu_vga.ndrv revision d4e7d7a built as submodule Add QemuMacDrivers as submodule ppc/xics: preserve P and Q bits for KVM IRQs ppc/xics: Fix stale irq->status bits after get target/ppc: do not reset reserve_addr in exec_enter tcg: enable MTTCG by default for PPC64 on x86 cpus: Fix CPU unplug for MTTCG target/ppc: Generate fence operations ... Merge remote-tracking branch 'remotes/kvaneesh/tags/for-upstream-signed' into staging VirtFS update: Cleanups mostly isolating virtio related details into separate files. This is done to enable easy addition of Xen transport for VirtFS. The changes include: 1. Rename a bunch of files and functions to make clear they are generic. 2. disentangle virtio transport code and generic 9pfs code. 3. Some function name clean-up. # gpg: Signature made Tue 12 Jan 2016 06:04:35 GMT using RSA key ID 04C4E23A # gpg: Good signature from "Aneesh Kumar K.V <aneesh.kumar@linux.vnet.ibm.com>" # gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature! # gpg: There is no indication that the signature belongs to the owner. # Primary key fingerprint: 4846 9DE7 1860 360F A6E9 968C DE41 A4FE 04C4 E23A * remotes/kvaneesh/tags/for-upstream-signed: (25 commits) 9pfs: introduce V9fsVirtioState 9pfs: factor out v9fs_device_{,un}realize_common 9pfs: rename virtio-9p.c to 9p.c 9pfs: rename virtio_9p_set_fd_limit to use v9fs_ prefix 9pfs: move handle_9p_output and make it static function 9pfs: export pdu_{submit,alloc,free} 9pfs: factor out virtio_9p_push_and_notify 9pfs: break out 9p.h from virtio-9p.h 9pfs: break out virtio_init_iov_from_pdu 9pfs: factor out pdu_push_and_notify 9pfs: factor out virtio_pdu_{,un}marshal 9pfs: make pdu_{,un}marshal proper functions 9pfs: PDU processing functions should start pdu_ prefix 9pfs: PDU processing functions don't need to take V9fsState as argument fsdev: rename virtio-9p-marshal.{c,h} to 9p-iov-marshal.{c,h} fsdev: break out 9p-marshal.{c,h} from virtio-9p-marshal.{c,h} 9pfs: remove dead code 9pfs: merge hw/virtio/virtio-9p.h into hw/9pfs/virtio-9p.h 9pfs: rename virtio-9p-xattr{,-user}.{c,h} to 9p-xattr{,-user}.{c,h} 9pfs: rename virtio-9p-synth.{c,h} to 9p-synth.{c,h} ...
