libnvdimm: Introduce CONFIG_NVDIMM_SECURITY_TEST flag
nfit_test overrode the security_show() sysfs attribute function in nvdimm dimm_devs in order to allow testing of security unlock. With the introduction of CXL security commands, the trick to override security_show() becomes significantly more complicated. By introdcing a security flag CONFIG_NVDIMM_SECURITY_TEST, libnvdimm can just toggle the check via a compile option. In addition the original override can can be removed from tools/testing/nvdimm/.
The flag will also be used to bypass cpu_cache_invalidate_memregion() when set in a different commit. This allows testing on QEMU with nfit_test or cxl_test since cpu_cache_has_invalidate_memregion() checks whether X86_FEATURE_HYPERVISOR cpu feature flag is set on x86.

nvdimm/blk: Delete the block-aperture window driver
Block Aperture Window support was an attempt to layer an error model over PMEM for platforms that did not support machine-check-recovery. However, it was abandoned before it ever shipped, and only ever existed in the ACPI specification. Meanwhile Linux has carried a large pile of dead code for non-shipping infrastructure. For years it has been off to the side out of the way, but now CXL and recent directions with DAX support have the potential to collide with this code.
In preparation for adding discontiguous namespace support, a pre-requisite for the nvdimm subsystem to replace device-mapper for striping + concatenation use cases, delete BLK aperture support.
On the obscure chance that some hardware vendor shipped support for this mode, note that the driver will still keep BLK space reserved in the label area. So an end user in this case would still have the opportunity to report the regression to get BLK-mode support restored without risking the data they have on that device.

dax: Kill DEV_DAX_PMEM_COMPAT
The /sys/class/dax compatibility option has shipped in the kernel for 4 years now which should be sufficient time for tools to abandon the old ABI in favor of the /sys/bus/dax device-model. Delete it now and see if anyone screams.
Since this compatibility option shipped there has been more reports of users being surprised by the compat ABI than surprised by the "new", so the compat infrastructure has outlived its usefulness. Recall that /sys/bus/dax device-model is required for the dax kmem driver which allows PMEM to be used as "System RAM".
The following projects were known to have a dependency on /sys/class/dax and have dropped their dependency as of the listed version:
- ndctl (including libndctl, daxctl, and libdaxctl): v64+ - fio: v3.13+ - pmdk: v1.5.2+
As further evidence this option is no longer needed some distributions have already stopped enabling CONFIG_DEV_DAX_PMEM_COMPAT.

tools/testing/nvdimm: add watermarks for dax_pmem* modules
Add nfit_test 'watermarks' for the dax_pmem, dax_pmem_core, and dax_pmem_compat modules. This causes the nfit_test module to fail loading in case any of these modules are also not overridden with the ldconfig wrapped modules. Without this, nfit_test would sometimes fail creation of device-dax namespaces on the nfit_test_bus with an unhelpful error log such as:
dax_pmem dax5.0: could not reserve metadata dax_pmem: probe of dax5.0 failed with error -16
Which was caused due to the unwrapped version of devm_request_mem_region() being called.

device-dax: Add /sys/class/dax backwards compatibility
On the expectation that some environments may not upgrade libdaxctl (userspace component that depends on the /sys/class/dax hierarchy), provide a default / legacy dax_pmem_compat driver. The dax_pmem_compat driver implements the original /sys/class/dax sysfs layout rather than /sys/bus/dax. When userspace is upgraded it can blacklist this module and switch to the dax_pmem driver going forward.
CONFIG_DEV_DAX_PMEM_COMPAT and supporting code will be deleted according to the dax_pmem entry in Documentation/ABI/obsolete/.

Some NVDIMMs, like the ones defined by the NVDIMM_FAMILY_INTEL command set, expose a security capability to lock the DIMMs at poweroff and require a passphrase to unlock them. The security model is derived from ATA security. In anticipation of other DIMMs implementing a similar scheme, and to abstract the core security implementation away from the device-specific details, introduce nvdimm_security_ops.

tools/testing/nvdimm: force nfit_test to depend on instrumented modules
The libnvdimm unit tests will fail when they are run against the production / in-tree version of libnvdimm.ko or nfit.ko due to symbols not being mocked per nfit_test's expectation. For example, nfit_test expects acpi_evaluate_dsm() to be replaced by __wrap_acpi_evaluate_dsm() to test how acpi_nfit_ctl() responds to different stimuli.
Create a test-only symbol name that nfit_test links against to cause module load failures when the wrong module is present.
For example, with this change, attempts to use the wrong module will report:
nfit_test: Unknown symbol libnvdimm_test (err 0)

License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches.

dax: refactor dax-fs into a generic provider of 'struct dax_device' instances
We want dax capable drivers to be able to publish a set of dax operations [1]. However, we do not want to further abuse block_devices to advertise these operations. Instead we will attach these operations to a dax device and add a lookup mechanism to go from block device path to a dax device. A dax capable driver like pmem or brd is responsible for registering a dax device, alongside a block device, and then a dax capable filesystem is responsible for retrieving the dax device by path name if it wants to call dax_operations.
For now, we refactor the dax pseudo-fs to be a generic facility, rather than an implementation detail, of the device-dax use case. Where a "dax device" is just an inode + dax infrastructure, and "Device DAX" is a mapping service layered on top of that base 'struct dax_device'. "Filesystem DAX" is then a mapping service that layers a filesystem on top of that same base device. Filesystem DAX is associated with a block_device for now, but perhaps directly to a dax device in the future, or for new pmem-only filesystems.

tools/testing/nvdimm: unit test acpi_nfit_ctl()
A recent flurry of bug discoveries in the nfit driver's DSM marshalling routine has highlighted the fact that we do not have unit test coverage for this routine. Add a self-test of acpi_nfit_ctl() routine before probing the "nfit_test.0" device. This mocks stimulus to acpi_nfit_ctl() and if any of the tests fail "nfit_test.0" will be unavailable causing the rest of the tests to not run / fail.
This unit test will also be a place to land reproductions of quirky BIOS behavior discovered in the field and ensure the kernel does not regress against implementations it has seen in practice.

tools/testing/nvdimm: unit test for acpi_nfit_notify()
We have had a couple bugs in this implementation in the past and before we add another ->notify() implementation for nvdimm devices, lets allow this routine to be exercised via nfit_test.
Rewrite acpi_nfit_notify() in terms of a generic struct device and acpi_handle parameter, and then implement a mock acpi_evaluate_object() that returns a _FIT payload.

nfit: do an ARS scrub on hitting a latent media error
When a latent (unknown to 'badblocks') error is encountered, it will trigger a machine check exception. On a system with machine check recovery, this will only SIGBUS the process(es) which had the bad page mapped (as opposed to a kernel panic on platforms without machine check recovery features). In the former case, we want to trigger a full rescan of that nvdimm bus. This will allow any additional, new errors to be captured in the block devices' badblocks lists, and offending operations on them can be trapped early, avoiding machine checks.
This is done by registering a callback function with the x86_mce_decoder_chain and calling the new ars_rescan functionality with the address in the mce notificatiion.

libnvdimm, pmem: allow nfit_test to override pmem_direct_access()
Currently phys_to_pfn_t() is an exported symbol to allow nfit_test to override it and indicate that nfit_test-pmem is not device-mapped. Now, we want to enable nfit_test to operate without DMA_CMA and the pmem it provides will no longer be physically contiguous, i.e. won't be capable of supporting direct_access requests larger than a page. Make pmem_direct_access() a weak symbol so that it can be replaced by the tools/testing/nvdimm/ version, and move phys_to_pfn_t() to a static inline now that it no longer needs to be overridden.

/dev/dax, pmem: direct access to persistent memory
Device DAX is the device-centric analogue of Filesystem DAX (CONFIG_FS_DAX). It allows memory ranges to be allocated and mapped without need of an intervening file system. Device DAX is strict, precise and predictable. Specifically this interface:
1/ Guarantees fault granularity with respect to a given page size (pte, pmd, or pud) set at configuration time.
2/ Enforces deterministic behavior by being strict about what fault scenarios are supported.
For example, by forcing MADV_DONTFORK semantics and omitting MAP_PRIVATE support device-dax guarantees that a mapping always behaves/performs the same once established. It is the "what you see is what you get" access mechanism to differentiated memory vs filesystem DAX which has filesystem specific implementation semantics.
Persistent memory is the first target, but the mechanism is also targeted for exclusive allocations of performance differentiated memory ranges.
This commit is limited to the base device driver infrastructure to associate a dax device with pmem range.
