drm/atomic-helpers: Invoke end_fb_access while owning plane state
commit e0f04e41e8eedd4e5a1275f2318df7e1841855f2 upstream.
Invoke drm_plane_helper_funcs.end_fb_access before drm_atomic_helper_commit_hw_done(). The latter function hands over ownership of the plane state to the following commit, which might free it. Releasing resources in end_fb_access then operates on undefined state. This bug has been observed with non-blocking commits when they are being queued up quickly.
Here is an example stack trace from the bug report. The plane state has been free'd already, so the pages for drm_gem_fb_vunmap() are gone.
Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 0000000100000049 [...] drm_gem_fb_vunmap+0x18/0x74 drm_gem_end_shadow_fb_access+0x1c/0x2c drm_atomic_helper_cleanup_planes+0x58/0xd8 drm_atomic_helper_commit_tail+0x90/0xa0 commit_tail+0x15c/0x188 commit_work+0x14/0x20
Fix this by running end_fb_access immediately after updating all planes in drm_atomic_helper_commit_planes(). The existing clean-up helper drm_atomic_helper_cleanup_planes() now only handles cleanup_fb.
For aborted commits, roll back from drm_atomic_helper_prepare_planes() in the new helper drm_atomic_helper_unprepare_planes(). This case is different from regular cleanup, as we have to release the new state; regular cleanup releases the old state. The new helper also invokes cleanup_fb for all planes.
The changes mostly involve DRM's atomic helpers. Only two drivers, i915 and nouveau, implement their own commit function. Update them to invoke drm_atomic_helper_unprepare_planes(). Drivers with custom commit_tail function do not require changes.
v4: * fix documentation (kernel test robot) v3: * add drm_atomic_helper_unprepare_planes() for rolling back * use correct state for end_fb_access v2: * fix test in drm_atomic_helper_cleanup_planes()

drm: automatic legacy gamma support
To support legacy gamma ioctls the drivers need to set drm_crtc_funcs.gamma_set either to a custom implementation or to drm_atomic_helper_legacy_gamma_set. Most of the atomic drivers do the latter.
We can simplify this by making the core handle it automatically.
Move the drm_atomic_helper_legacy_gamma_set() functionality into drm_color_mgmt.c to make drm_mode_gamma_set_ioctl() use drm_crtc_funcs.gamma_set if set or GAMMA_LUT property if not.

drm/bridge: Add the necessary bits to support bus format negotiation
drm_bridge_state is extended to describe the input and output bus configurations. These bus configurations are exposed through the drm_bus_cfg struct which encodes the configuration of a physical bus between two components in an output pipeline, usually between two bridges, an encoder and a bridge, or a bridge and a connector.
The bus configuration is stored in drm_bridge_state separately for the input and output buses, as seen from the point of view of each bridge. The bus configuration of a bridge output is usually identical to the configuration of the next bridge's input, but may differ if the signals are modified between the two bridges, for instance by an inverter on the board. The input and output configurations of a bridge may differ if the bridge modifies the signals internally, for instance by performing format conversion, or*modifying signals polarities.
Bus format negotiation is automated by the core, drivers just have to implement the ->atomic_get_{output,input}_bus_fmts() hooks if they want to take part to this negotiation. Negotiation happens in reverse order, starting from the last element of the chain (the one directly connected to the display) up to the first element of the chain (the one connected to the encoder). During this negotiation all supported formats are tested until we find one that works, meaning that the formats array should be in decreasing preference order (assuming the driver has a preference order).
Note that the bus format negotiation works even if some elements in the chain don't implement the ->atomic_get_{output,input}_bus_fmts() hooks. In that case, the core advertises only MEDIA_BUS_FMT_FIXED and lets the previous bridge element decide what to do (most of the time, bridge drivers will pick a default bus format or extract this piece of information from somewhere else, like a FW property).

drm/atomic: Add __drm_atomic_helper_plane_reset
There are a lot of drivers that subclass drm_plane_state, all of them duplicate the code that links together the plane with plane_state.
On top of that, drivers that enable core properties also have to duplicate the code for initializing the properties to their default values, which in all cases are the same as the defaults from core.
Change since v1: - Make it consistent with the other helpers and require that both plane and state not be NULL, suggested by Boris Brezillon and Philipp Zabel.

drm/crtc: Add a generic infrastructure to fake VBLANK events
In some cases CRTCs are active but are not able to generating events, at least not at every frame at it's expected to. This is typically the case when the CRTC is feeding a writeback connector that has no job queued. In this situation the CRTC is usually stopped until a new job is queued, and this can lead to timeouts when part of the pipeline is updated but no new jobs are queued to the active writeback connector.
In order to solve that, we add a ->no_vblank flag to drm_crtc_state and ask the CRTC drivers to set it to true when they know they're not able to generate VBLANK events. The core drm_atomic_helper_fake_vblank() helper can then be used to fake VBLANKs at commit time.

drm: Nuke drm_atomic_helper_connector_set_property
It's dead code, the core handles all this directly now. This also allows us to unexport drm_atomic_helper_connector_set_property.
The only special case is nouveau which used one function for both pre-nv50 legacy modeset code and post-nv50 atomic world instead of 2 vtables. But amounts to exactly the same.
What is rather strange here is how few drivers set this up, I suspect the earlier patch to handle properties in the core did end up fixing a pile of possible issues.
