fs: push i_mutex and filemap_write_and_wait down into ->fsync() handlers Btrfs needs to be able to control how filemap_write_and_wait_range() is called in fsync to make it less of a painful operation, so push down taking i_mutex and the calling of filemap_write_and_wait() down into the ->fsync() handlers. Some file systems can drop taking the i_mutex altogether it seems, like ext3 and ocfs2. For correctness sake I just pushed everything down in all cases to make sure that we keep the current behavior the same for everybody, and then each individual fs maintainer can make up their mind about what to do from there. [PATCH] fix reservation discarding in affs - remove affs_put_inode, so preallocations aren't discared unnecessarily often. - remove affs_drop_inode, it's called with a spinlock held, so it can't use a mutex. - make i_opencnt atomic - avoid direct b_count manipulations - a few allocation failure fixes, so that these are more gracefully handled now. iget: stop AFFS from using iget() and read_inode() Stop the AFFS filesystem from using iget() and read_inode(). Replace affs_read_inode() with affs_iget(), and call that instead of iget(). affs_iget() then uses iget_locked() directly and returns a proper error code instead of an inode in the event of an error. affs_fill_super() returns any error incurred when getting the root inode instead of EINVAL. [PATCH] affs: implement ->drop_inode affs wants to truncate the inode when the last user goes away, currently it does that through a potentially racy i_count check in ->put_inode. [PATCH] Make most file operations structs in fs/ const This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/ const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus cache clean) Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
