genetlink: make policy common to family Since maxattr is common, the policy can't really differ sanely, so make it common as well. The only user that did in fact manage to make a non-common policy is taskstats, which has to be really careful about it (since it's still using a common maxattr!). This is no longer supported, but we can fake it using pre_doit. This reduces the size of e.g. nl80211.o (which has lots of commands): text data bss dec hex filename 398745 14323 2240 415308 6564c net/wireless/nl80211.o (before) 397913 14331 2240 414484 65314 net/wireless/nl80211.o (after) -------------------------------- -832 +8 0 -824 Which is obviously just 8 bytes for each command, and an added 8 bytes for the new policy pointer. I'm not sure why the ops list is counted as .text though. Most of the code transformations were done using the following spatch: @ops@ identifier OPS; expression POLICY; @@ struct genl_ops OPS[] = { ..., { - .policy = POLICY, }, ... }; @@ identifier ops.OPS; expression ops.POLICY; identifier fam; expression M; @@ struct genl_family fam = { .ops = OPS, .maxattr = M, + .policy = POLICY, ... }; This also gets rid of devlink_nl_cmd_region_read_dumpit() accessing the cb->data as ops, which we want to change in a later genl patch. net: remove 'fallback' argument from dev->ndo_select_queue() After the previous patch, all the callers of ndo_select_queue() provide as a 'fallback' argument netdev_pick_tx. The only exceptions are nested calls to ndo_select_queue(), which pass down the 'fallback' available in the current scope - still netdev_pick_tx. We can drop such argument and replace fallback() invocation with netdev_pick_tx(). This avoids an indirect call per xmit packet in some scenarios (TCP syn, UDP unconnected, XDP generic, pktgen) with device drivers implementing such ndo. It also clean the code a bit. team: avoid complex list operations in team_nl_cmd_options_set() The current opt_inst_list operations inside team_nl_cmd_options_set() is too complex to track: LIST_HEAD(opt_inst_list); nla_for_each_nested(...) { list_for_each_entry(opt_inst, &team->option_inst_list, list) { if (__team_option_inst_tmp_find(&opt_inst_list, opt_inst)) continue; list_add(&opt_inst->tmp_list, &opt_inst_list); } } team_nl_send_event_options_get(team, &opt_inst_list); as while we retrieve 'opt_inst' from team->option_inst_list, it could be added to the local 'opt_inst_list' for multiple times. The __team_option_inst_tmp_find() doesn't work, as the setter team_mode_option_set() still calls team->ops.exit() which uses ->tmp_list too in __team_options_change_check(). Simplify the list operations by moving the 'opt_inst_list' and team_nl_send_event_options_get() into the nla_for_each_nested() loop so that it can be guranteed that we won't insert a same list entry for multiple times. Therefore, __team_option_inst_tmp_find() can be removed too. net: dev: Add extack argument to dev_set_mac_address() A follow-up patch will add a notifier type NETDEV_PRE_CHANGEADDR, which allows vetoing of MAC address changes. One prominent path to that notification is through dev_set_mac_address(). Therefore give this function an extack argument, so that it can be packed together with the notification. Thus a textual reason for rejection (or a warning) can be communicated back to the user. net: core: dev: Add extack argument to dev_open() In order to pass extack together with NETDEV_PRE_UP notifications, it's necessary to route the extack to __dev_open() from diverse (possibly indirect) callers. One prominent API through which the notification is invoked is dev_open(). Therefore extend dev_open() with and extra extack argument and update all users. Most of the calls end up just encoding NULL, but bond and team drivers have the extack readily available. team: no need to do team_notify_peers or team_mcast_rejoin when disabling port team_notify_peers() will send ARP and NA to notify peers. team_mcast_rejoin() will send multicast join group message to notify peers. We should do this when enabling/changed to a new port. But it doesn't make sense to do it when a port is disabled. On the other hand, when we set mcast_rejoin_count to 2, and do a failover, team_port_disable() will increase mcast_rejoin.count_pending to 2 and then team_port_enable() will increase mcast_rejoin.count_pending to 4. We will send 4 mcast rejoin messages at latest, which will make user confused. The same with notify_peers.count. Fix it by deleting team_notify_peers() and team_mcast_rejoin() in team_port_disable(). netpoll: allow cleanup to be synchronous This fixes a problem introduced by: commit 2cde6acd49da ("netpoll: Fix __netpoll_rcu_free so that it can hold the rtnl lock") When using netconsole on a bond, __netpoll_cleanup can asynchronously recurse multiple times, each __netpoll_free_async call can result in more __netpoll_free_async's. This means there is now a race between cleanup_work queues on multiple netpoll_info's on multiple devices and the configuration of a new netpoll. For example if a netconsole is set to enable 0, reconfigured, and enable 1 immediately, this netconsole will likely not work. Given the reason for __netpoll_free_async is it can be called when rtnl is not locked, if it is locked, we should be able to execute synchronously. It appears to be locked everywhere it's called from. Generalize the design pattern from the teaming driver for current callers of __netpoll_free_async. team: Forbid enslaving team device to itself team's ndo_add_slave() acquires 'team->lock' and later tries to open the newly enslaved device via dev_open(). This emits a 'NETDEV_UP' event that causes the VLAN driver to add VLAN 0 on the team device. team's ndo_vlan_rx_add_vid() will also try to acquire 'team->lock' and deadlock. Fix this by checking early at the enslavement function that a team device is not being enslaved to itself. team: Publish team_port_get_rcu() A follow-up patch adds a new entry point, team_port_dev_txable(). Making it an ordinary exported function would mean that any module that may need the service in one of the supported configurations also unconditionally needs to pull in the team module, whether or not the user actually intends to create team interfaces. To prevent that, team_port_dev_txable() is defined in if_team.h, and therefore all dependencies of that function also need to be publicly-visible. Therefore move team_port_get_rcu() from team.c to if_team.h. treewide: kzalloc() -> kcalloc() The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). treewide: kmalloc() -> kmalloc_array() The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This patch replaces cases of: kmalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own implementation of kmalloc(). The Coccinelle script used for this was: // Fix redundant parens around sizeof(). @@ type TYPE; expression THING, E; @@ ( kmalloc( - (sizeof(TYPE)) * E + sizeof(TYPE) * E , ...) | kmalloc( - (sizeof(THING)) * E + sizeof(THING) * E , ...) ) // Drop single-byte sizes and redundant parens. @@ expression COUNT; gso: limit udp gso to egress-only virtual devices Until the udp receive stack supports large packets (UDP GRO), GSO packets must not loop from the egress to the ingress path. Revert the change that added NETIF_F_GSO_UDP_L4 to various virtual devices through NETIF_F_GSO_ENCAP_ALL as this included devices that may loop packets, such as veth and macvlan. Instead add it to specific devices that forward to another device's egress path, bonding and team.
