drm: Pass 'name' to drm_universal_plane_init()
Done with coccinelle for the most part. It choked on msm/mdp/mdp5/mdp5_plane.c like so: "BAD:!!!!! enum drm_plane_type type;" No idea how to deal with that, so I just fixed that up by hand.
Also it thinks '...' is part of the semantic patch, so I put an 'int DOTDOTDOT' placeholder in its place and got rid of it with sed afterwards.
I didn't convert drm_plane_init() since passing the varargs through would mean either cpp macros or va_list, and I figured we don't care about these legacy functions enough to warrant the extra pain.

drm: Pass in new and old plane state to prepare_fb and cleanup_fb
Use cases like rotation require these hooks to have some context so they know how to prepare and cleanup the frame buffer correctly.
For i915 specifically, object backing pages need to be mapped differently for different rotation modes and the driver needs to know which mapping to instantiate and which to tear down when transitioning between them.

drm: atmel-hlcdc: add discard area support
The HLCDC IP provides a way to discard a specific area on the primary plane (in case at least one of the overlay is activated and alpha blending is disabled). Doing this will reduce the amount of data to transfer from the main memory to the Display Controller, and thus alleviate the load on the memory bus (since this link is quite limited on such hardware, this kind of optimization is really important).

The Atmel HLCDC (HLCD Controller) IP available on some Atmel SoCs (i.e. at91sam9n12, at91sam9x5 family or sama5d3 family) provides a display controller device.
This display controller supports at least one primary plane and might provide several overlays and an hardware cursor depending on the IP version.
At the moment, this driver only implements an RGB connector to interface with LCD panels, but support for other kind of external devices might be added later.

drm: Remove users of drm_format_(horz|vert)_chroma_subsampling drm_format_horz_chroma_subsampling and drm_format_vert_chroma_subsampling are basically a lookup in the drm_format_info table plus an access to the hsub and vsub fields of the appropriate entry. Most drivers are using this function while having access to the entry already, which means that we will perform an unnecessary lookup. Removing the call to these functions is therefore more efficient. Some drivers will not have access to that entry in the function, but in this case the overhead is minimal (we just have to call drm_format_info() to perform the lookup) and we can even avoid multiple, inefficient lookups in some places that need multiple fields from the drm_format_info structure. This is amplified by the fact that most of the time the callers will have to retrieve both the vsub and hsub fields, meaning that they would perform twice the lookup. drm: atmel-hlcdc: Use __drm_atomic_helper_plane_reset instead of copying the logic A new helper function(__drm_atomic_helper_plane_reset) has been added for linking a plane with its state and resetting the core properties(alpha, rotation, etc.) to their default values. Use that instead of duplicating the logic. __drm_atomic_helper_plane_reset initializes the alpha property to its max value, which is defined by the drm core as DRM_BLEND_ALPHA_OPAQUE, so nothing changes regarding the alpha value. drm/atmel-hlcdc: check stride values in the first plane The statement always evaluates to true since the struct fields are arrays. This has shown up as a warning when compiling with clang: warning: address of array 'desc->layout.xstride' will always evaluate to 'true' [-Wpointer-bool-conversion] Check for values in the first plane instead. drm/atmel-hlcdc: Stop using plane->fb We want to get rid of plane->fb on atomic drivers. Stop looking at it. Daniel pointed out that the drm_framebuffer_put() in the plane cleanup indicates that the driver doesn't shut things down cleanly. To do that we should be able to just call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(). Not really sure the current cleanup sequence is actually sane, but whatever. v2: Replace the drm_framebuffer_put() with drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() (Daniel) Cc: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> Cc: Boris Brezillon <boris.brezillon@free-electrons.com> Signed-off-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20180405151400.11326-10-ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com Reviewed-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch>
